Next on your vision quest picture what it really is like for the element in front of you to become feeling. Either the tactile sensing and the inner feelings. For instance if you are drawn to a large tree and there’s a slight wind blowing, imagine how that feels against the bark of all the tree. And imagine how the slight breeze feels against the leaves of the tree. Against it’s branches. Along the trunk.

If you are in a position to touch the object directly in front of you, invest a few moments touching the object. This further deepens the link with that element in the wilderness. As you start to be aware of yourself touching the element, picture how it feels for the element to be touched by you. Imagine the way it feels for the tree to have it’s trunk touched by you. Imagine the way it feels for the base and the beginning of the roots to be touched by you. And picture how it feels for the branches and leaves to be touched. Imagining the way it feels for your object in front of you to be touched by you.

You are able to also deepen the connection further by imagining the way it feels on your inner feeling to be able to be that element directly in front of you. If it really is a tall tree you are drawn to then picture where and the way it feels inside it’s body when you are standing alongside it. Picture where and how it feels within if there is a powerful wind blowing. Picture exactly where and how it feels within to look up at a transparent and sunny sky. Picture the feelings within the tree. Imagine from it’s point of view where and what the interior sensations are.

Investing some time feeling the 5 senses from the point of view of the object you have been drawn to will usually deepen your connection with it.

Once you have deepened the connection you are now in the right perception to start speaking with your element you’ve been drawn to.

The inner voice you tapped into before, every object inside the wilderness also has an internal voice. A delicate voice within. When speaking with the wilderness objects, the main insight would be to listen. To listen of the internal voice of the object you got been drawn to.

To start the conversation during your vision quest, simply use your internal voice and inquire of the object in front of you if it’s OK to get in a conversation with it. Just after forming the connection I’ll generally start by saying some thing like ‘Hi, I am David. Could it be Okay if I usually have a chat with you?’

Then I’ll generally wait around and listen. I’ll start to pay attention with my internal hearing. And imagine what the internal voice of the object I usually have been drawn to is coming from.

Uncover precisely how to do your personal vision quest immersed in the wisdom and mystery of the wilderness.

Millennium Prophesies

Author: Owen Jones

A lot of people predicted that the start of the new Millennium, the year 2000 would be the date of the apocalypse. However, fortunately, they were very wide of the mark.

What is it that makes people to attempt to predict calamities? Is it because they are trying to warn people or because they want to frighten people? Frighten people, I think and thereby gain advantage over the gullible.

These apocalyptic prophesies go back thousands of years and even happen in the Bible. Their only raison d’etre is to frighten people and so gain money, power and influence over them.

Even the millennium bug turned out not to be a problem with computers working perfectly well after midnight despite claims by ‘computer experts’ that there would be a worldwide crash of stupendous importance. The computer industry made a fortune out of frightening businesses and individuals with their lies. That was the scam of the Nineties to end all scams!

So why all the hype? Was it just the arrival of a new millennium, which gave rise to so many to make predictions on this date rather than stick to their usual common sense? Yes, I think. People saw the chance of a lifetime to rip others off and they jumped at it.

Needless to say there were thousands of prophesies made ranging from the arrival of aliens and the Second Coming of Christ to plane crashes. None of which came true. Here are a couple of those less than accurate prophesies:

May 5th was the day upon which all the planets lined up. The prediction was that the gravitational force of all these heavenly bodies in alignment would cause massive earthquakes, huge tides and volcanic eruptions.

A lot of people also prophesied that the shifting of the poles would occur during 2000 and that this would cause disastrous events such as high tides, widespread electrical failure and computer failures, which would mean economic disaster for the larger countries and insurance firms.

I do not know what you think, but perhaps instead of worrying about the demise of the world (most doom-mongers have decided on the year 2012 for the destruction of the world) we should work together to make the best of the time we have left on this planet, as well as ensuring that we pass the planet on to the next generation in the same condition as we received it.

If we act in this way, we may hold off the day of reckoning for a long while yet. We are far more likely to undergo apocalypse through nuclear war, global warming and events which are avoidable and within our control, than cosmic events which we have little control over such as asteroids or the Sun’s developing into a red dwarf and ultimately exploding.

Twenty or thirty years ago, no-one in their right mind would have gone to Croatia, unless they were in the army, but that has all altered. Nowadays, Croatia is part of the European Union and is much more hospitable to tourists.

One of the tourist activities that Croatia is building its reputation on is skiing. It is a warmer country than northern France, Switzerland and Scandinavia, so it is possible to take a skiing vacation in the mountains and finish the holiday off with a week at the seaside.

One of the best skiing areas to visit is Zagreb and in particular Bjelolasica, which is where the Croatian Olympic skiing team trains. The facilities in this area are excellent and the prices are a great deal cheaper than you would pay in either in the French or in the Swiss Alps or in Scandinavia. In fact Croatia offers great skiing facilities at a very affordable cost.

The Croatian skiing community is of very high standard and they know that they have to compete with the history of the more famous French and Swiss ski resorts so they really pull all the stops out to make certain that the tourists and sports people that come to their country derive value for money and would like to come back again.

They comprehend that word of mouth advertising is the best and the cheapest form of advertising that you can get.

Another popular Croatian skiing destination is Platak. Platak is located nearer the Adriatic and can be a bit more expensive than Bjelolasica because it is a bit cut off, but it just depends where you want to go and what you would like to do.

Platak is a decent all round skiing resort which has plans for improvements on a huge scale. During the coming years, Platak will have more ski slopes of different levels of expertise and more hotels and chalets over all cost bands.

You would be forgiven for thinking that there might be a language barrier in Croatia and to be honest there can be, but the ski resorts are all staffed by people who have studied most of the common European languages. It shows how much can be done in twenty years if the government and the people have the correct and the same point of view.

Croatia has a very varied cuisine, so tourists and skiers from all around the world should be able to find lots of suitable food and drink. Croatia has a border with Hungary and their wine is very good. All in all, Croatia offers decent skiing facilities at a knock down price, but just how long they will be able to offer these fantastic facilities at these attractive prices remains to be seen.

If you are a serious skier, it could be worth going to Croatia and purchasing a time-share or some other sort of accommodation now before the inevitable price rise when the rest of Europe realizes how cheap skiing in Croatia really is.

The London Underground Mosquito

Author: Owen Jones

Who would have thought that the London Underground is home to a unique species of mosquito? The species is called the London Underground mosquito and is considered to have evolved from Culex pipiens. The London Underground species has been dubbed Culex pipiens molestus, because it is a vigorous biter.

It is not new, but it is comparatively new in biological terms. Molestus is known to have bitten Londoners during the Second World War when they were taking refuge during the air raids. However, there are other references to a mosquito with the same name, molestus, 170 years before the war, when there was no underground railway system in London or anywhere else in the world.

This mosquito was first discovered in the London Underground, which is why it got its name, but it can be discovered in metro and underground railway stations all over the world. No one really knows a lot concerning this insect species yet.

Some people suggest that it is a variant of a local Culex pipiens that has adapted to living in warmer, subterranean tunnels, whilst others say that is a southern (and therefore warmer) variant of C. pipiens that is able to live in the colder north because it has colonized the warm train tunnels of the underground systems.

Yet others, notably Kate Byrne and Richard Nichols, suggest that it is a totally different species from Culex pipiens. Their proof for saying this is that there are differences between pipiens and molestus: they display very different behavioural patterns and do not mate readily with one other.

C. pipiens molestus will bite rats, mice and humans and dies in cold temperatures but remains active all year round, whereas C. pipiens can tolerate cold weather, only bites birds and hibernates if the weather gets very cold.

On the rare occasions when the two varieties cross breed, the eggs are infertile, which implies that they are distantly related if at all. Recent studies indicate that molestus originated in one source but spread rapidly around the world, perhaps in freight.

Second-hand tyres have been held responsible for spreading molestus around the world. There is a colossal international trade in second hand tyres and it is infamously difficult to get all the water out of a tyre that has been left in the rain. Mosquitoes can breed in a tiny amount of water, so this is a possibility.

There is a strange and not completely explained twist to the story of the molestus, the American version of molestus pipiens still bites birds which leads some individuals to say that molestus is a separate species, but that it has formed a hybrid in America with pipiens.

This is fairly frightening, but fairly possible, because the American pipiens can transmit human encephalitis brought about by the West Nile virus, an outbreak of which hit New York in 1999.

There is much more to find out concerning the London Underground mosquito, since the story is only just starting to unfold. The true story will almost certainly come out of America where this new mosquito has proved to be the most perilous.

Are you happy driving long distances on your own? Or driving to destinations that you are not familiar with? If you are, then all well and good, but there are masses of individuals who have to make journeys like those, but who are terrified of getting lost.

It is not easy to get a job these days and it will almost certainly get worse before it gets any better, so it is not easy to object or risk losing your job. A way around these problems is an auto navigation system or a sat nav as many individuals call them.

An auto navigation system is quite cheap these days and it can relieve lone drivers of a lot of stress, if it is used correctly. If your car did not come with an auto navigation system, then get one installed by a trustworthy third party or go for one of the other options, such as loading the software on a laptop or getting a hand-held sat nav system.

In fact, the dearest way of purchasing an auto navigation system is to get it with the car on finance, because you will be hit twice. Not only are the car manufacturers and their dealers the most expensive by a long chalk, but if you put the sat nav on the car finance you will pay even more for it. Heaps more.

Get your car on finance if you have to, but buy all the accessories independently for cash. Think about visiting a few garages and asking for a quote on the system that you want. This requires a little research first, but it is well worth it. There are two ways of going about this: either check out which system you want first, or see what local technicians can install first.

Once you have finished this research, you will have your cost of installation and then you can go online and find out how much you can get one there for in comparison with the local shopping street.

Another option is to buy an adapter for the cigarette lighter socket so that you can plug your laptop into it and buy the software and hardware as a package so that you can change your laptop computer into a full GPS auto navigation system.

If you already have a laptop, this is the least expensive, best alternative. It will provide at least as good a system as a stand-alone set-up and the screen may even be larger. It also means that you can remove the device so as not to give criminals another excuse to break into your car.

The cheapest option of all is to get a hand-held GPS sat nav unit. These are also useful, but often they do not offer the same level of service. Like the laptop option, the hand-held device can be taken out of the car and utilized on a boat. However, the hand-held unit can also be used while walking or on a bicycle

The summer is the time for barbecues, garden parties, lounging in the backyard or bathing in the pool. It is also the season for insects, usually of the flying kind. Flies and mosquitoes can be everything from mildly annoying to downright dangerous. So what can you do to protect yourself in the garden during the summer?

The first thing to do is start clearing up your backyard before the summer begins. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water and it only has to be a half-inch deep. This means that you should keep the gutters free from fallen leaves and other blockages.

Blocked gutters and drains are major breeding grounds, but so are all things that can hold rainwater. Flower pots, buckets, old tyres and folds in tarpaulins are others.

Drill holes in pots, containers and old tyres; pull tarpaulins tight, upturn boats and canoes and if you have water features, make certain that there are either guppies or goldfish in there as well, because they are famous for feeding on mosquito larvae.

Making a pre-emptive strike on mosquito breeding grounds will radically lessen the number of mosquitoes in your garden and thereby reduce your liklihood of being given West Nile virus (in the USA). It will also protect you against E.coli.

However, your neighbours may not be as fastidious as yourself, so mosquitoes will still come into your backyard. To protect yourself from these spray insect repellent containing DEET (25% +) on your clothing and exposed skin to avoid mosquito bites.

In the twilight, hang a bug zapper with a blue light and an electrified coil in the environs of where you are sitting. The best ones also use pheromones to attract mosquitoes, particularly octenol.

Some species of mosquitoes hang around animals, so rub some natural mosquito repellent on your dogs or do not allow them to lie at your feet.

Do not use DEET on them because they will lick it off and become sick. Use citronella oil, lemon oil or garlic. There are lots of others as well, but they are not as effective or as long-lasting as DEET.

If you are cooking, and who would not be, be cautious of meat, particularly chicken and pork. If the meat is frozen, thaw it gradually and keep it in the fridge until minutes before you are going to cook it.

The risk zone is between 40-140F, when bacteria will grow very quickly and flies will lay eggs in it. If you have to store the meat out of the fridge, store it ‘under water’, that is, in a marinade, so that flies can not get at it and it is out of direct sunlight.

Keep food and drinks separately, so that the fridge is not opened so often as to permit the temperature to rise above 40F. Use two sets of kitchen utensils, one to handle raw meat and fish and one to take cooked meat and fish off the flames otherwise you will contaminate the cooked food.

Use a meat thermometer to check that the foodstuff is cooked: 160F for meat and 165F for chicken. Discard cooked food not eaten after two hours or after one hour if the background temperature is above 90F. If you would like to use marinade up on cooked food, boil it first.

It seems that every new car you see these days has an auto navigation system. They are impressive as well, there is no doubt about that, but how many people use them to their full extent?

The initial navigation devices to become affordable did not have maps and did not have voice directions, but then they were for use by yachts men and women. They were also fitted in commercial vehicles quite early on, but when they were first fitted into cars, it was only into the Bentleys and Ferraris of this world.

Now auto navigation systems are cheap enough to go in a Ford. And that is great, but they are still often part of an upgrade package, which most people do not really require, because they are too atechnical to get the best out of the sat nav.

If you travel long distances to different places on a normal basis, then an auto navigation system is very handy, but your employer has almost certainly already fitted them in the fleet cars for the sales force. In the same way, an auto navigation system is very practical if you are lost, but how often do people go to areas where they risk getting lost?

It seems to me, that the best use of an auto navigation system to the majority of people is to steer clear of traffic jams. However, this means sitting down with the instruction book and learning how to use the device properly.

An auto navigation system can easily help you steer clear of such hazards as road blocks, traffic jams and accidents. If you ask it. It can also help you find routes to where you want to go that you would never have thought of even if you do know the area pretty well. If you know how to ask it.

It is a real shame that people buy this technology, or any other for that matter, in order to make an impression on their friends and never comprehend the full potential of what they have within their reach. Alright, if you have more money than sense, you may think why not?

But the population of the world is starting to think about waste and how we can conserve resources, so honestly you, the planet and everybody in it would be better off, if you did not fritter away your money, or worse still, get into debt just to show off. This is a symptom of where we went wrong last time.

An auto navigation system can be a real benefit because it can help you save fuel by choosing direct routes and also help unclog our roads by showing cars alternative routes. If you have an auto navigation system, learn how to use it and you will perceive the great benefits that are locked away inside that little box; but if you are buying a new car and you know that you will never be troubled to learn how to use it, do everyone a favour and just do not have an auto navigation system installed.

Boys and girls of all ages like trains and train sets. They have played a very important role in the history of this country and Seattle, Washington and the Northwest in specific. In fact, the roles of trains in this part of the country have in the past been so vital that there are a few museums dedicated to them. Trains were essential lifelines for the people here for many years. While their importance seems to be dwindling in today’s society, their significance throughout the history of our country remains.

If you really are a train enthusiast, then it should not be hard to talk you into stopping by Seattle’s Train Center before and after touring the museums devoted to trains and their importance in history. The Train Center offers a wide selection of model train parts and pieces that would make excellent additions to your train set or a great beginning for a train set for you or your kids.

After you’ve whetted your appetite for trains and gotten your child all excited about them, it is time to take a walk back in time to the Northwest Railway Museum. There you can learn about railway history or even decide to take a ride on one of the trains that departs on several trips throughout the day. Most of the excursions are 65-75 minutes long and are a remarkable treat for young and old alike. Perhaps the greatest thing about this museum is that its main purpose is to educate the public about the important function that railroads had in the development of this part of the country.

If you’re really interested in sharing your love for trains with the ones you love, you may consider taking a spin on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. This is a great way to not only get the experience of riding the rails but to take in some of the beautiful Washington scenery and have a gourmet meal in the process. During the months of November through to April up to two children may ride free with a paying adult.

There are certain restrictions on the type of seating, but it is a great way to get the event at a vastly reduced price. There are also special events such as Murder Mystery Trains and Magic and Illusion shows in addition to certain holiday events as well. Be sure to check out what is going on while you are visiting Seattle and see if this is something that might interest you and your family.

If you are up for a not so short drive to Pasco (roughly three and a half hours from Seattle), you might find the Washington State Railroads Historical Society Museum well worth the journey. Be sure to remember that the museum is only open on Saturday and that the hours are restricted so this is a journey you need to plan in advance. The greatest thing about this museum to me is the fact that there are lovely little stories, like the blackboard that recorded the first snowfall at the depot each year and others such as this.

It is the short stories that do not necessarily make history that do make lasting impressions and I am glad to see this particular story is being shared. Just remember, when visiting any of these depots, museums, and train tours that you definitely must bring your inner child with you in order to enjoy them as you should.

Golfing Tips For Beginners: 5

‘Drive for show, but putt for dough’ is the phrase we’ve all seen and learned from watching professional golfers in every tournament and championship either live or on TV.

The best players of golf can drive a ball from the tee to kingdom-come, but in the end, it all comes down to how many hits of the ball it takes to get that ball in the hole. The long accurate drives don’t mean a thing if you’re unable to putt accurately on the green.

The choice of putter is very important, but knowing how to use that putter consistently, is even more important. For example, I’ve had the same putter for fifteen years, so I know what it feels like in my hand, I know it’s weight and I know how all that plays into my putts.

Now putting takes a huge amount of practice. Think about this: we drive the ball roughly eighteen times a game (once per hole), but putt at least twice that amount. So, surely it make sense to practice putting at least twice as much as driving? Therefore, if you just can’t get to the practice green that often, you could practice on your carpet at home.

Keep in mind that no ball can make it into the hole, if it doesn’t have enough power behind it to get it there. Take the time to get down on the grass and look at the path from your ball to the hole. Does it slant one way or the other? Is it uphill or downhill?

The stance is: stand with your feet spread for balance and line up the putt. Keep you hands, arms and shoulders completely still. Imagine that you are a “bobble head” and that you move from just below the chest. Keep your head directly over the ball; pull your club back; keep your hands, wrists, arms and shoulders steady – the movement comes from your chest; hit the ball, following through with your club.

Try to learn from each putt and remember the lesson. Practice, practice, practice!

Swimming Pool Accessories

Author: Owen Jones

Millions of people love to swim in their gardens about the world. Swimming and playing in the water is great fun, even if you have to go to a pond, pool, a river or the sea to do it. in order to make full use of a garden pool, you do have to live in a place where the weather is warm. The owner also has to have to have some money as pool maintenance fees are high.

Therefore, when people have gone to the trouble of having a garden pool installed, they also like to have the pool used as frequently or as much as possible. You can encourage your friends and family to use the pool more often by making it more fun and more comfortable to do so. Pool accessories or swimming accessories are a means of achieving this.

People like to be in the water, so you could make it straightforward for them by using poolside furniture that will float when supporting an adult. There are various objects like floating chairs, floating tables and plastic inflatable lidos that will keep you and your guests in contact with the water. Good floating furniture will also support people out of the water, cheap gear will not.

If you like the notion of floating in your pool while sitting on a chair reading a book, this sort of furniture is for you. Lots of these seats have an in-built glass holder and float so that your waist is at the water line, although this just depends on the chair and the person sitting in it.

Then there are floating sun loungers which do roughly the same thing as a floating chair, except they tend to keep your whole body out of the water so that you can get an even sun tan. Inflatable lidos or rafts are similar items, although the inflatable lido or camp bed is a very cheap item compared with the more solid floating seats and loungers.

Other items that you could use to raise the enjoyment of your garden pool are aquatic games. You could string up a water polo net or a water volley ball net in order to get people moving. Beach balls are another good idea for encouraging play in the pool. If you are on your own, you could just float around in an inflated truck tyre. They are very comfortable and very cheap.

If you are dead set on relaxation at your pool, you could build a poolside bar. The bar stools could be in the water, if your pool is large enough, otherwise you could incorporate the pool bar into a breakfast bar where you can prepare and eat light meals. Weighty meals are not good for swimmers anyway.

Pool accessories or swimming accessories will heighten your enjoyment of your pool and make your friends and family wait for you next invitation to come around for a swim impatiently. Most of these items do not have to be costly either.
